Well -- the birds
are still there, safe and sound (if partially covered with new goo ?). Reminds me of the wall menus I covered the other day with new menu boards, at the café. As I told the owner, it's like a time capsule . . .
Looks great, Mark. Could you post the before picture here, so we can marvel at the improvement ? Congratulations !
Many thanks, all.
The sofa needs to go, and I'll miss its divine comfort. In fact, it's the most comfortable sofa that I've ever been perched upon (horizon and/or vertical). Unfortunately, It just looks too clunky and dated. Thank god it's not black leather. I'll discover the replacement sofa soon...hopefully.
yup,
Aunt Mark
You're right woodster. I'll probably take SDR's good advice,
and put a pleated skirt (in a contrasting textile...or fringe) around the perimeter, hence hiding the front leg. Tassels will be added here and there. SDR and I totally agree that either you put a skirt on it...or put a bird on it....or both.
With affection,
Aunt Mark
ps I saw a log cabin (Little House on the Prairie) textile that would just look dynamite.
(edit)ps. just kidding, the sofa needs to go. It's dated.
You're "dated" too --
should we throw out the baby with the bathwater ? Comfort counts for a lot.
How about a throw of some superior fabric ? You could display any pants you're not wearing at the moment, by draping them artfully on the sofa to hide the legs (the original purpose of pantaloons, one supposes . . .).
Not.
The new room looks great. Gone are the crown moldings, the mirror interruptions -- and the mirror goes to the floor, praises be. Whoopee !
The stupid part.
I bought the sofa (Roche Bobois) back in my olden day's, as I thought that the arched front leg would blend well with a pair of Barcelona chairs and ottomans (same room). There is a lot to be said for fugly comfortable sofa's. This old thing is totally down filled, weighs at least 200 lbs, and has a flawless top quality leather covering. I have been contemplating its replacement for some time. Plus, the beast was kind of expensive (don't really remember for sure). I so enjoy a quick nap resting my tender fat face on one of the arm rests (lipstick removed, natch). But I'll fall in love with another sweet sofa soon.
WWRD?
(what would ray do?)
Aunt Mark
ps. I'll probably have an artist friend draw all over the old beast in a permanent marker just to shake it up...then I'll donate it.
pss. date me.
consider this
Mark,
I seem to remember that enjoy Knoll products. Have you considered the Charles Pfister petite sofa for Knoll Studio. I have several of these. A full size with Water Blue Sabrina leather and down fill, one petite in in Black Volo leather with polyester fill and two petites (in storage) in Mink Velvet with polyester fill. The style is a classic.
As for having an artist covering you current piece with a marker, I have attached a photo of the Stephen Sprouse work for Knoll. He made two copies of each piece and I was going to purchase the day bed when some nut walked into the NYC Knoll showroom and offered full retail.
