Hi folks.....Although I am a authorized knoll dealer in Miami Beach I don't have a great deal of experience with vintage pieces. I recently bought a Platner Easy Chair and the chrome is far from perfect. What are your thoughts on having it rechromed?
Thanks!
-Jesse

Guys, I appreciate your humor, but...
please don't bite the newcomers!
New members are prospective contributors and are therefore DA most valuable resource. We must treat newcomers with kindness and patience - nothing scares potentially valuable contributors away faster than this kind of little games.

I was serious. Both times.

If it's worth it to you, why not?
Some of us like our old stuff to show age-appropriate wear. In certain cases of rare and valuable examples, it's probably not the best idea if retaining historic, cultural, or monetary value is a priority.
I'm guessing your chair isn't a museum piece, so, as long as you are aware that replating it might devalue it in the eyes of other collectors and it will make you happier, by all means go for it.

WWPD?
What would Platner do? Nickel plated (or bronze) is the deal...and a nickel patina is divine.
Leave them alone.
Best,
Aunt Mark

Is it right that on really...
Is it right that on really good plating its copper over steel first then thats plated? I think I've seen a coppery colour on pictures of worn Platner chairs, something to ask about if you get them done.

Copper-nickel-chrome.
Nickel and most steels apparently bond better to copper than to each other, so the process is something like: Polish and clean, copper plate, buff, nickel plate, chrome plate.
