..On the Dibs ....
set of four Charles & Ray Eames chairs for herman miller
H. 2 ft. 7 in., W. 1 ft. 11 in.
Price: $1,800
this was a price i saw on 1st dibs for 4 shell chairs that were no big deal like Zenith
this could be the rip of the month on 1st dibs..

We have done over 200 shell chair so we know how to do them.
so if you are ever in the market buy the cheapest arm shell you can get your hands on, at either a thrift store or ebay.
do not fall for the sellers bull crap rare, one of a kind . cause that is just not true, Herman Miller made millions of them, all the shells that are left out there are just like the rest
The shells that are oatmeal color and black always turn out great for redoing , so if you see a ebayer selling a shell with a soiled front, and he is saying this just needs a clean up not true it needs to be redone cause the foam has turned to meel and in my opinion un sanitary not that you would be sitting in the chair with no underwear on ( I would hope not for your sake ) ,
We have found the Girard fabric even thoe it is wonderful it let the fabric breath, and that caused the foam to harden and crumble, so if you are looking, look for the crappiest one and the cheapest one, on the front side
just make sure there are no cracks or breaks on the reserve side, also never worry about the pucks as they can be changed out real easy,

Once again this is not a solicitation for your business, strictly for information purpose only.

I was asked yesterday wha...
I was asked yesterday what is the best way to get the old foam off a Eames shell chair, and the only answer from a professional stand point is to grind it off with a grinder outside,
if you are going to recover the inside of the shell it will not hurt a thing, if you are going to reuse the shell good luck it has been done, but not by me, just make sure to get all the old foam off, It will not make that much difference cause once you re sculpt and foam it will be just fine,
I bought 20 shells on ebay this summer for 10 bucks each
they were so filthy , I need a shower after unloading them.
I did cut the covers off with a box Knife and they came off all in one.
they were not foamed a lot of the lafondas are this way and these were just like the lafonda shells that cream white color that has yellowed over the years, they had no embossing of Herman miller but they were cause the shocks were the same and every thing else was, Now I sold 10 to a guy in Santa Fe and he redid them and they were beautiful, He said he used a combination of the cleaner for the showers CLR a little acetate, and paint remover, all out side with gloves,
