If it came down to it and I had to get out of the house fast there are only some documents and a couple of things I'd save, I'd deeply regret losing books mostly.

My grandfather gave me this drawing set when I was about 13, before he died. Ivory (or bone), incredibly finely made and complete.

Its not really a design oriented question but whats important to you? We all say we love the things we have but perhaps we don't love the Eames chair as much as we think.

Actually doing some searching I think maybe its caseinate (?) an early plastic.

Lovely to
see -- I can't recall a set in brass. Not everyone would recognize this as a drafting set. My sister gave me mine when I graduated, in 1964. The hinged scale is nice (the close-up).
There's a recent thread on another site about the joys and woes of traditional architectural drafting methods and materials. Enjoyable, for those of us who remember . . .

.
yeah autocad is amazing and the computer can calculate volumes and surface areas at the click of a mouse but to really get the feel of something a full scale drawing done on one of the X Y tracking drafting boards can't be beat.
I've never used the old set, its either a bit stiff or loose and I'd just lose bits if I did.
