Looking for some really beautiful and simple interior doors for a home remodel project I am working on. Two companies I have found that I love so far are in Italy and incredibly expensive (i.e. $4k per door). Just wondering if anyone has any resources for great modern interior doors that are reasonably priced?
That's right.
You will likely find birch faces on your new generic slab door. You can select among all the doors of the right width that you find in your town (every building supply place has these), and select the one(s) you like best. You can often find a pair with matching grain (because they were made at the same time). You can stain the birch if you don't like the yellow-cream and tan colors of clear-finished birch.
Some of these doors have grain that will remind you of the Eames pony-skin chair. You are more likely to find one-piece veneer rather than book-matched.
If you just MUST spend more than necessary, you can upgrade from hollow-core to solid-core doors. These will have birch faces too -- unless you order a different specie.
