Ahh...
Another sweet story.
Wait for the best.
Burke, Plycraft, etc.,it is like a starter home.
If you find it cheap at a yard sale or thrift store, ok.
Soon your eye will want more. The classic lines.
Not reproductions but originals.
You'll get your money back on the lesser designs.
(if it is a steal, say 10-50 bucks)
But not the reproductions at such a high price and
inferior production methods.
I got a 42" white laminate...
I got a 42" white laminate Burke table off Craigslist for $99. It's a *nice* table but don't get me wrong, it's no Knoll. If you can get a deal on a Burke it's fine but if the price isn't right just hold out for the real thing. BTW yes they do flake fairly easily. :-\ Thinking about getting it powder coated w/ Rensin, but I doubt it'd be worth it.
$5
I've gotten a bunch of Burke tables at auction for $5 apiece. Paid $50 for one but wouldn't do that again.
They're OK. You do have to be careful of the edges of the top. They also tip easily and I've heard that the Saarinens do not.
The one that I kept for myself has an unfinished aluminum base that I like a lot.
