So I am amassing Knoll Saarinen Chairs and LOVE them.(Now I have 10!!! and way to many for what I need but I have given - rather lent, some to my daughter for her new condo) My table, although it looks like knoll Saarinen, is not. I am finding that my neck hurts when I am on my laptop because my elbows are too high and can't lower them ;)!!!. So I am thinking the table is too high or the chairs are too low. No way am I getting rid of the chairs, so the problem here lies in the height of the table. What is the traditional height of a Knoll Saarinen tulip table? Also, what are the normal diameters of the tables? Mine is 48" and is a little too large for my space, and 36" is way too small (42 would be ideal). What I see is over 50" and I just can't do that either . thanks for your input, ~Elle

Standard table height
is about 28-29 inches. The saarinen table should be 28.25" high according to Knoll. One of the easiest ways to tell if your table is authentic is if the table top has a steep bevel on the underside. Most of the knock-offs do not have that edge.

Many desks
have pull-out keyboard trays that place the keyboard below normal desk/table height. Old-fashioned typewriter stands were lower that that, too.
It may be that the chairs are a little low. A cushion is the easy solution, there.

OK, my table is use under...
OK, my table is use under 29", so I guess I need to focus on the cushions. The chairs I just got have redone ones that are very comfy but way too soft and I sit rather low. My others are orignal and vinyl, are stiffer and I sit much higher, but they too are a little too low for the table. I love them though and they will stay.

Not ideal office furniture
I hate to say this, because I love Knoll tulip chairs and tables, but they don't make ideal office furniture. If you're looking for something you want to use a laptop on for long stretches of time, I'd look to getting a proper desk and office chair and just use the tulip set for dining, entertaining, and the occasional jaunt on the web. The Herman Miller aluminum management group chairs are great office chairs and are adjustable. I got a white laminate paperclip desk made by Blu Dot which looks great with that chair, and it has the lower keyboard tray. Tulip chairs look good in front of that desk too, so if you must use them, you could since the keyboard tray is low enough for you. But since the chair isn't adjustable, it's still not what I call an ideal office chair.

office or not! 😉
Actually my set is my kitchen set and since I now have a laptop and am way too lazy to walk over to my studio, I hang out at the kitchen table. Love being in the center of things!!!

I figured you were talking...
I figured you were talking about your dining set. My advice still stands though...I wouldn't spend a lot of time at the kitchen table with that laptop unless you have a chair of the proper height unless you like RSIs.
I also spend time with the laptop at the kitchen table (also a tulip), but I rarely spend more than 10-15 minutes doing this. Then I excuse myself to my Eames lounge and use my laptop as a LAPtop. At work, which is where I use it the most, I use it on my desk with a chair of the proper height.
If you really want to use it with that table, I'd recommend getting an adjustable chair to keep in the kitchen for that purpose. It's a lot cheaper than surgery to correct an RSI. 🙂
