Well, there's patina and then there's "how many times do I have to say it, REMOVE MEDIEVAL SUIT OF ARMOR BEFORE SITTING ON THE FURNITURE, PEOPLE!!"

Did Knoll offer leather backs with fabric seats? Perhaps the seat was reupholstered in the past.

Actually this type of patina can be caused by "American Nudist Dining", sans the necessary hand towel.
