One of the greatest danish wood workers, Henry Fisker, died at the age of 91. He was an important figure at PP Mobler, where he worked as a craftsman for more than 50 years. According to the company he developed countless prototypes, mostly for Wegner-Chairs. He was the one who contrived the way to produce the wooden construction for Wegner's circle chair which even Wegner himself thought was impossible to produce.
There is this amazing film about danish furniture on youtube, which you probably all have watched countless times, as I did. From Minute 51 on you can see Henry Fisker at work. It is a treat, really.
"People buy a chair, and they don't really care who designed it." (Arne Jacobsen)
Yes, RIP. They don't make 'em like they used to.
Thx for posting, Herringbone. Without regular contributions from generous and thoughtful members (such as you and Lexi, of late) this forum will continue to wither unto an empty shell of its former status. It's harder and harder to carry the torch on one's own these days it seems. But I, for one, appreciate the effort. Stay gold, noble brother!
