I would like to buy an eames lounge chair, but cannot afford the $4,000 price tag. I realize that quality counts in the long run, but in this case will have to settle for a reproduction. I have seen all sorts of reproductions and realize I will never get what an original has. I have narrowed the search down to two designers. ... has one for $995.
... has one for $1400. They both look the same. can anyone tell me what I am giving up and if there is a big difference between them, or if they have another brand to recommend?

The two you mentioned (before your message was edited)
are exactly the same.
By the way, that chair can be purchased direct from a showroom in China for $553.50 without even trying. If you spoke the language and could go one step back in the supply chain, you could probably get it for half that cost... And the supplier would still be making a good profit.
Think about how the chair must be manufactured in order for that to be possible.
Have you considered buying a vintage chair? You can get one for MUCH less then $4000, and if you're patient and wait for one at the right price, you'll probably get all your money back if you ever sell it.
Hi Mark,
I'll only speak for myself. Believe me, I've been in your position where I caught my eyes on those beautiful Eames Lounge Chairs and figured, "Hm, those knock-offs seem pretty spot on". And with the scary price tag on the new authentic ones, it's natural to just focus your attention on the knock-offs. So I went ahead and purchased a replica for $800 and it felt right for a while. But as my enthusiasm for the Eames Lounge Chair and my ability to notice the subtle difference between real and fake grew, it no longer felt right. It's almost like hitting on my conscience. So I went ahead and made the plunge and bought a very new used one (2010 production). I paid $2,800 for it and it's not too bad considering how it looked pretty much like new. I ended up selling the knock-off for $600 which I thought I was lucky. The moral of the story is if you indeed like something and know you'll use it, you should probably get it and the satisfaction is 10 folds. It still brings a smile to my face every morning I step into my living room seeing the beautiful grain on my chair. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on your pursuit.

You sure get what you pay for, I bought some imported Chinese plywood a few weeks ago just prior to a lot of damp weather, it was sitting indoors next to a remnant piece of locally produced ply thats about 7 years old.
Result? Chinese ply delalaminated, just came apart like f^&king tissue paper, the old bit of scrap is fine. Never again.
