replace knoll saarinen table top  

i have a vintage i.e., dont know the year, saarinen table base. i want to put a marble top on it but i spoke with the knoll folks and they said that the newer tops may not work with the older base (the drill holes on the top may not line up with the old bases as they have retooled them over the years) i would like to keep it all knoll rather than have a new marble top fabribated. i was thinking i could have the holes redrilled if it did not work, but before i spent the large chunk of change to get the knoll top wanted to see if anyone here had any words of wisdom
