I recently bought a Herman Miller LCM Chair (lounge chair metal) which was covered in a thick black matte paint.
It wasnt original and it was badly done.
I sanded it down and am going to repaint it.
I hope that someone has got some suggestions of what paint to use.

I sanded it down to the woodgrain but some of the grains have been sanded away to far by the previous owner (or its not the best plywood used for the totally black painted lcm chairs).

The shock absorbers are stil original and are still firmly attached so I think I'm going to leave them on.
They are marked with the miller logo.

Well just hoping for some advice on what paint to use.

Aniline dye, not paint on old ones

At this point
At this point aniline dye isn't really an option, unless you stripped (instead of sanded) the previous paint on. The dye soaks into the woodgrain, and if there are any remnants of the old paint on there the dye won't take...it will be splotchy.
Paint is your best option - I'd recommend something in a satin finish rather than a high-gloss.

Does anybody know since when Miller produced black painted lcm chairs?

In the 90s
In the 90s HM brought back the LCW and DCW in walnut, ash, cherry, black, and red. The black and red versions are not aniline dyed, nor are they painted. They are a precatalyzed lacquer. The lacquer sits on the surface, unlike the original dyes which absorb into the wood.
HM brought back the aniline dyes a couple years ago in an expanded palette, then shrunk the color line back to red and black. They discontinued the lacquers, then brought them back concurrently with the dyed versions.
