Not sure you have it available in Europe, but spray-on oven cleaner works pretty well as a cheap, make-do paint stripper sometimes on parts like these. It's caustic and nasty stuff, though, so safety precautions are necessary.
Echoing that I am not sure if its available in Europe but "aircraft remover" (sold in auto parts stores) is the best painted metal stripper I have ever used.
