I know where he got these tables from (at a local auction) and for how much (about $60 for BOTH tables).

I believe
These are Knoll knock-offs. They are listed on eBay as well.

I think
Woodywood is right, they look very much 'inspired' by Knoll. By this much, you mean 60$ or the price stated in the link?

$60 is OK
But $350 for no name tables?? This is how the price of a mid century piece gets inflated, I guess...

It is worth
I think this subject has been covered in prior postings.
It makes no differnce what the seller has paid for an object and a item is only worth what a person is willing to pay.
The object in business is to pay as little as possible for an item and to sell for the greatest profit possible.

TK, I have a real problem
with type of posting. If you liked the tables, why did you not buy them AT AUCTION?
Why begrudge the buyer who bought them at auction for 60 bucks and is now trying to sell them at 350 a pop?
If you liked them so much, you should have participated in the auction and not whine later when the price goes up after the initial transaction. Jeez. Rant over.

Agreed Riki and Ark
that is just how the business works. You had your chance to buy them, don't be mad at someone because of your own missed opportunity.

And agree.
Any object is worth what someone is willing to pay.
Silly to rant about it. The seller can ask what ever he wants. And may
eventually lower his price if it doesn't sell. Who cares.
Business 101.
(If he adds confusion by adding a sticker or signature or false
provenance i could see having a big problem with it.)

Just sit back and laugh
At the seller for trying to sell knock-offs at a ridiculous price.

Thank you all for your opinion
I did bid on the item but the winner's bid was higher. Though I liked those tables, I didn't think they were worth more than $60, and certainly not $350!
I was curious if these were a "real deal" because I don't want to miss a similar opporunity in the future. But looks like they are not.
I understand the basic business principles and this seller should not be blamed for the pricing. However, it seems to me that he is trying to make an easy money, because he didn't even care to clean-up/refinish the item (item description states the same flaws as the one at the auction).
I love all vintage pieces, and if I decide to resell some of my collections I make some efforts to clean them up especially if I were to price them for more than 5 times the purchase price (which I never do anyways). I just don't like to see that those beloved vintage furniture are being abused by others... That's my personal exaggerated feeling!

However, it seems to me
TK,
Whenever a person says I understand or I agree and then adds the words however or but, they do not understand.
Once again, the seller is free to place any price they want on an object and are under no obligation to "clean up" the piece. As long as they are honest in their description, its appears from your posting that they are since you say they copied the original auction description, it is the buyer who is free to say yes or no.
I was taught in the business world that not getting the maximum price possible was "leaving money on the table". I have purchased many design items at ten (10) cents on the dollar and never thought of selling them for double that amount. I have always tried to be just under the competition. This is called running a business for a profit!
Rest assured they did not make one of these units and perhaps you will be able to get the next piece at the price you desire.
Do you truly understand now or do you still care to "kick a dead horse" The new guidelines indicate that all parties are to be courteous in their replies and I am doing my best to say stop already without being rude.
