I want an Eames Lounger so bad, and am willing to drive to this Estate Sale 1 1/2 hours away, but they want $500 for it and I dont know if it is real or a knock off. Can anyone tell fomr their pic?

Fake
Not real, not by a long shot.

Not
a bad-looking copy, to my eye; all the elements are there, in approximately the correct form -- but the materials are the wrong colors for a close copy. Rosewood veneer and black leather are the original materials, of course.

the tip-off
The quickest and easiest way to tell a vintage knockoff from the real thing is to look for exposed bolts under the armrests. Eames chairs do not have any exposed bolts. Plycraft and Selig do, and a lot of them also have small screw heads showing in a few places on the wood.
There are new knockoffs too but I don't know how to tell them from the real thing because I haven't ever really looked at any.

Soo many discussions on this subject.
Start collecting images of the real thing.
Get familiar so that when you come across one you can pounce.
(the stem should be black enamel on the chair and stool)
The book is nice to have.
Eventually you will find one. Don't pounce too hard... ; )
