I know we've been through this before but I can't seem to find the good information, my le creuset is looking really bad, I let a couple of things boil dry by accident and the enamel popped and cracked off in a few places, pretty much unusable I think.

Just buy stainless? I love the way they keep heat and that I can take things off the heat and leave them sit for ages and still be hot but am wondering if its worth the hassle of staining and chipping.

Heh heh --
Are you one of those people who buy a Mercedes and then never wash or tune it ? The front wheels are dark from disc dust, the diesel exhaust smokes and you can't see through the windows for dirt; but it's still a Mercedes -- greatest car in the world !

yeah I'm Australian hadn't you heard 🙂
No, I'm usually careful, they were never in the best state and these were 2 catastrophic accidents, I boil water for tea in them and I just forgot. I passed on 2 really good ones in a thrift store today, might go back for them and look after them and buy a kettle.

There you go.
I killed an old Pyrex coffee pot by doing that. It wasn't mine, and I went looking for a replacement. By the time I found one, I'd moved on -- so now it graces my shelf, holding a collection of old mail and business cards. Not risking this one !

The kicking of the self eh?...
The kicking of the self eh? My Mum saw my pots a while ago and was aghast that I could cook out of such things, *sigh* it might be time for a few of them to go the rubbish tip, I only need 3 anyway.
I looked at the kettles available, what utter rubbish, I like that they turn themselves off and are probably safer but I'll go to a camping supply place and get something for the stove top instead...and put a big note on the inside of the front door saying "HAVE YOU TURNED THE STOVE OFF DICKHEAD?"
I just did it again, IDIOT! I really hope those 2 are still there in the morning.

The pots may be an eyesore....
but I don't think they're unusable, despite the widespread belief that using chipped enamel is somehow "dangerous".
We use enameled cast iron pots, we use un-enameled cast iron pots, I don't see why semi-enameled cast iron pots present a new danger.
