I'm in the process of buying a used neo sectional and was wondering if anyone who owns one could answer a question about it's construction.
On the bottom of the two seat section (of the used one that I am looking at) I can feel a curved or bowed metal support bar. It seems to curve toward the ground convex to the base of the sofa. I am wondering if this is how they are constructed or if this one might have a bent piece of metal in it's frame?
If anyone knows, that would be a great help. I really like the sofa a lot but don't want to buy a damaged one.
I am not familiar...
with the product (other than in pictures) but this construction is very common in upholstered furniture. In Niels Bendtsen's own information it is called:
The Neo Sectional frame is constructed with a durable steel-reinforced laminated wood frame and has a steel spring suspension system adapted from the automotive industry, which provides maximum support and comfort while occupying minimal space.
The steel reinforced wooden frame seems to be standard
The
reason for the curve would be demonstrated if you got down on the floor and watched the underside of the sofa (or chair) while someone sat down on (in) it.
The suspension of the seat upholstery is designed to move downward under the weight of the sitter.
A highly visible example of the same principle can be seen on both the seat and back of an Eames Aluminum Group chair, where the cross-pieces connecting the parallel rails of the chair are bowed away from the sitter.
