I suppose this is one for Olive.

Are there any straightforward websites or books you could recomend on insulation and airflow etc? I have a raised wooden floor, about 14" high, and get some nice sirflow coming up from the moist dirt below, I was thinking of cutting a hole in the floor and puttng a big shallow tray of water down there and putting a floor grate in and then a roof vent, would that work?

Any tips or tricks appreciatted, especially for cooling.

The only trick I know is using a tall central collum and open areas on either end of the room/house. The warmer air rises up the collum, pulling in air from outside through the house and up the collum.

I need to cool the air I'm pulling in, its disgustingly hot here. And humid too...so perhpas my underfloor pool won't work.
Perhaps a de-humidifier, I can handle dry heat.

If you had a basement, apply my original post but allow the much cooler basement air to be pulled up by convection.

no basement and a de humidifier might not be so great for storing timber...although I can store that in the other shed. Perhaps I should just take my holidays in the middle of Summer.
Is your shop airconditioned SDR? Any concerns about wood moisture content? I did hear a story a few years ago about a heap of furniture that was commisioned for Parliament House, after after a couple of weeks the joints were all popping in the air conditioning, must have gone from a moisture content of about 15% to 8%.
