I'm not sure if I have ever seen anything here about what kind of walls we have around our mid-century furniture. Since 1993, I have lived in a 1951 MCM house designed by Charles Goodman, sort of the Eichler of the DC area. Our house is in Maryland, but Goodman is best known for his Hollin Hills development in Virginia. The house is small (about 1,500 sq.ft.) but feels much larger due to open floor plan and high living room ceiling. The back two walls of the house are floor-to-ceiling glass, and one of the opposite walls is a beautiful brick fireplace. The light streaming in during the day is incredible--I can't imagine living in a traditonal house ever again. I think MCM furniture looks good in lots of settings, but it really pops in this type of house. What kind of house to you live in?

I live in a shoebox that looks like a public toilet block inhabited by an emigre Dane.

Congratulations
on your special house, Steve. Here are a couple of images of Hollin Hills, to give readers a taste of Goodman's work.
It's amazing what a difference a full-height window makes. . .

creepy, my flat actually looks a lot like the top image, minus the wood floors, and my bricks are blonde, but not in a good way.

goodman
Maybe I can get my wife to post to pictures, although the inside of our house looks like the one in the picture. There are five Goodmans in a row on our street, and they were the first ones in the area to be added to the National Historic Record several years ago.

Hi Steve,
I recently moved...
Hi Steve,
I recently moved into my first home. It's was build by the Streng bros. It's a little over 1300 sq. ft. but feels alot biggger due to the open layout. The living/ kitchen area is open with an atrium. Eventhough the old gal needs some work, I must say I am in love! 😀

my home designed in 1964 ...
my home designed in 1964 by Doug Wixson and Edward Vance Kershner, Kershner one of the greatest architects in Oklahoma did fantastic mid century modern homes, Doug Wixson was his son in law.
The home is 5000 sq ft with celestial windows and maple wood floors, looking very Richard Neutra style, with new crap orchard stone, similar to the stone that Neutra used on the Kauffman home in Palm Springs, but that stone was called Utah Buff Quartzite stone, found in that area,
The great thing about my home it is much like homes Marcel Breuer ,Landis Gores,John Johansen,Elliot Noyes,
and Phillip Johnson were designing in the New Canaan Conn area in the 50s and 60s ,
This house that i live in could have been on any block in Conn.as for a mid century modern home it has a lot of sq feet, and has 40 ft ceilings that make the home with the floor to ceiling windows seem much larger than it is.
To say the least I love this home as i have furnished it with the furniture of that period, and it seems to just pop that is why when some one ask me what style did you furnish it in, I say POP 60s
