My DCMs from '53...
have the exact same unfinished areas around the shockmounts. Almost as if a large-ish piece of tape was use to mask the area off for some reason.

Thank you
Well that's good to know, even the one with what looks like glue around it?

Yes
Even at the factory, sometimes a bit of glue would seep out from under the shockmount when it was put in the clamp.
Looks like your chair is ash.
I may have said this before, but I think the LCM (and DCM too, but I like the lounge height)) is possibly the best realized Eames design. I like it better than the LCW. I find the contrast between the wood and metal very pleasing and I like the slender profile of the metal frame more than the thick spine of the LCW and DCW. The legs look the same no matter the angle (unlike the LCW & DCW) and the seat and back appear to float. The proportions fit a wide range of sitters, the construction holds up much better over time, and price wise they are still among the most accessible. To me it's a home run on all accounts.

I agree, this was one of my first chairs but i have outgrown room for this one, it sits in our bedroom now and has sadly become a seat for the pillows from the unmade bed
