if you had to have only one piece of modern design from the 20's till the present... what would it be?

George Nelson Bench
I could survive a lot of chintz, if I could just rest my eye on the Nelson bench's perfect form.

eames lounge + ottoman. a totally expected answer, but it contains all you need: good design + comfort.

I picked the Nakshima piece...
I picked the Nakshima piece as it is beautiful to me eye but financially unobtainable for me. I have a hard time conjuring up a design that doesn't exist yet. If you were to ask which one piece I would keep if I had to give up the rest it would be a Noguchi Akari lamp - it exudes a vibe that just does it for me.

Anything.. and thats it
The LCW is what drew me into Modern to begin with...why would I pick anything else? I love sitting by the window reading a book, or typing away on my laptop - and I love the aesthetic form, and a little pop of color.

Not a single piece...
...but a single moment would be my choice. Just for the time it takes to read one page of Elschots' "De Leeuwentemmer" I would like to sit in the PK 24 of Poul Kjaerholm, just inside along the small pool of the Barcelona pavilion with a Verner Panton VP Globe lighting the page.

Okay,
LuciferSum, between (my ideal) pair of red DCW's (a man needs to dine occasionally ?) I'd have Rietveld's 1919 Sideboard/Buffet -- the second white-washed and white-painted beech replica made by van de Groenekan in the fifties. Its cool sheltering planes would hover gently over their hot organic forms. . .in the garden-green room of my dreams ?

If I think big
Well if it could be anything, I'd like Pierre Koenig's Case Study house but overlooking a pristine fjord in Sweden instead of LA. Actually I'd like it to be mounted on a hovercraft so I can move it around to the ocean, the mountains, the prairie, etc.
