question: for those of you familiar with the eames CTM with the three legs, is there any definitive information out there on how long the 3 legged CTM was produced ? i found a few auction results via Wright20 that stated the ones they have sold over the past few years were "pre-production" but i don't think this is necessarily the case.
i know they are rare and valuable.... but were they in serial production during the evans /herman miller joint effort years ??
could Wright 20 be considering the evans production and HM distribution years
pre-production" ???
cornfused.
I don't think they were...
I don't think they were ever in serial production with three legs. According to the Eames Design book:
"Beginning in mid-1946 the designs for the round coffee table with wood legs (CTM), included in the three New York City showings of plywood furniture, were refined and then produced commercially by the Molded Plywood Division of Evans Products Company in Venice, CA. Four-legged variations in wood and metal rod of the round coffee tables were substituted for the three-legged versions"
