On this forum there is often much talk about the work of popular and established designers. I thought it might be nice to talk about your favorite pieces produced by more obscure designers or even pieces made by non-designers that you treasure. Perhaps it's an old table made by a family member, or a chair you picked up at a thrift store.
For me, one of my favorite pieces is a simple 1950's string chair, which was possibly designed by the sculptor Clement Meadmore.
Please share images of your favourite obscure designs.

This dish rack was the first...
This dish rack was the first thing I bought because I knew the design was good (Zojila dish rack). I knew it was a good design because I cook and wash dishes daily. I don't have any design background.
I learned enough to buy bigger things partly because of forum members here.

Bob van Allen
I'm in love with all things Bob van Allen. This was my first piece of his. Had he not died so young, I think he would have been a huge name in the biz.

Great stuff
Whats not to love. So many great designs, particularly those clever Dutch designers. I completely understand why someone would covet the Tweety MP3 bird house, it's a work of art. Textile designs are cool too.

tick,
The Stallinga MP3 Birdhouse was a limited edition of 10 for the Hara Museum Tokyo. I have this on my short list.

Thanks Niceguy
I checked out the Stallinga website and there are some great design objects. I can only assume that the TWEETY birdhouse was outside of my budget, but a fantastic object that is very desirable. It's more a sound installation, which is why I would call it an art work. Not everyones cup of tea, but it is mine.
On the subject of sound installations, I recently saw a work called Clinamen by french artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot. It features ceramic bowls floating in a body of water that tap each other creating a variety of sounds. A stunning piece.
I really like that blurring between design and art.
For more info see the link below.
So lunchbox, do you have a favourite piece by a lesser known designer? Please share your thoughts.

I like the work
tick,
Yes, I like Henk Stallinga's work. I own the Lumalasch hanging lamp.
Another "sound installation" piece on my short list is the Tadaaki Narita, Lucky Cat pinball machine for Droog. Too cool.

Very cool piece.
I am also a fan of Droog design. Thankfully there are some people out there pushing the envelope. There have been some great kick starter design projects online too. This pop-up pinhole camera is brilliant.
Thanks for posting the pinball.
Tick 🙂

I love pinhole photographs, tick
And my house is full of them. I shall have to recover from the irony of photographing one with a lens and post a photo here.

Oh yes, tick...
Quite a few in fact. But this thread isn't very obscure so far.
