Could be Paul McCobb
It does look like this piece from Paul McCobb, which they did interchange or have black/birch type pieces.

Yeah
Legs look kind of off... Not the right placement, angle, or length.

Ebay
For what it's worth. There is one up on Ebay currently. If the name was not branded inside the piece, the Paul McCobb stickers do come off pretty easily. The shelving would help identify the piece as Paul Mccobb. However, the dimensions do seem a bit off.

Just spotted this pair.
Listed as original.
The grass-cloth on the right is very common.
The black one is something i have never seen.
With the eye-hook pulls?
curious.

odd statement
If you like a piece of furniture, and the price seems right go ahead and buy it regardless of what others think? Ask 10 people and you likely will get 10 opinions...

I was kidding. Apparently, it sold before I even posted it. I've been around the block and know what I like. I honestly just do not need another piece.

Rockland
I have a two piece unit with the black lacquered front and the round alumunim pulls. By two piece, I mean the bottom drawer is attached to legs and the top is a single floating drawer unit with those narrow rubber pads for stacking.
I happen to also have an extra short McCobb Planner table top and 4 short legs, and VOILA, I now have two matching bedside tables!
I love mine.
They're a bit beaten up, so then again, so'm I.
