I stumbled across this on etsy. it looks like craft and associates are back in business and re visiting vintage Adrian pearsall designs.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftAssociates?ref=l2-shopheader-name
they seem to have changed the names of the items (the 2408-s is now the 1401 and the tags are new also). but to me it looks like they carry a hefty price compared to the vintage pieces ive seen (depending on where you buy of course). this poses an interesting question do you think it increases the value of vintage items when the original company does a somewhat of a re-issue of said piece? i know companies have been producing things like Eames chairs for ever and again depending on where you go vintage pieces can be found for less than new but craft and associates havent manufactured these designs in quite some time, any thoughts? just thought it was interesting.
anyway...
Take care all 🙂
Craft AssociatesTM vs Craft Associates Inc.
This seems to be a partnership between The Swanky Abode and "Craft AssociatesTM" The Craft Associates Furniture website refers you back to The Swanky Abode.
What's interesting to note, for me anyway, is that they are careful not to use the Adrian Pearsall name in their marketing, they changed catalog numbers and they are operating as "Craft AssociatesTM". Pearsall operated as "Craft Associates Inc."
It kind of seems that someone simply claimed the "Craft AssociatesTM" trademark and is making (nice quality) reproductions of Pearsall designs. I'm sure it's legal but I'd be interested to know if there is an actual partnership with the ORIGINAL company or anyone associated with it and there's no clear explanation of that on either of their websites.
did some digging....
@ loft24 interesting investigating. I went to the swanky abode website and came across this blog http://blog.theswankyabode.com/?p=2864
Which states they are partners in this endeavor. So I guess its completely legit. Interesting.
@ leif ericson i do agree with you on your statement in the rules of supply and demand but as it it sits the vintage sofas ive seen (outside 1st dibs) sell for far less than these "reproductions". so i guess my real question would be do you think that the vintage pieces will, if nothing else, raise to the price point of the pricing that these new sofas are selling for? I'm just curious if anyone has seen any pattern in this situation.
For anyone interested, two...
For anyone interested, two issues are now addressed on the Pearsall website:
1) They highlight the unauthorized use of Craft's name and designs and that they are taking legal action.
2) In a logical extension of taking down the catalog portion of the website, they are now offering to certify legitimate Pearsall/Craft pieces (for both a "small" and "reasonable" fee) for anyone who sends in images. Can't really blame the family for finally structuring and commercializing what they had been doing quite often for free.

thank you very much for update
The family website now is shrunken and the other website is ballooning.
The new company seems to be saying it can do this because Craft Associates was sold in 1968 by Adrian Pearsall to Lane Furniture Company, which eventually closed it.
Thank you very much for this story/updates. The family fee sounds like $50.
FORTUNATELY!!
you can still access the catalog via the internet archive...someone please make a pdf of this!!!!

CD silva
Cd silva you are so stupid!!!'
1- Adrian pearsall sold craft to Lane co.
2-Craft associates is furniture with really poor quality they use construction wood
So the pearsall family can't fight for something that a was sold 40 years ago. You seem to be one of those wanna be dealers who write shit here but don't know anything about furniture.
