Just thought I would start a new thread about great finds I got a little tired of reading about McDonalds Boy I recently stoped by the local goodwill to drop some things off and saw a lounge chair there I asked how much it was, I was told $4 needless to say I took it, turns out it was a Hermin Miller the chair was in great shape but my wife hatted it I sold it on Ebay and gave the money to goodwill Remember the fun is in the find and not in the treasure
A Florence Knoll T-angle bench
My latest find was an 80" Florence Knoll T-angle bench. The walnut tops had some appliance scratches and black water rings, but I sanded the tops, bleached the walnut, stained it and finished it in tung oil. This is how it turned out.
My cost for the bench and materials to refinish it: $55

Well wouldn't you know it!
Sometimes life gives you eerie coincidences. After weeks of arguing about clocks...
I was tossing some stuff into the recycling in my building at work when I saw this narrow edge of a cardboard box sitting in the dumpster. The box had a pretty distinctive graphic on it so I didnt hesitate to jump in. What do you think was inside? Why an Eye Clock, of course! It looks like something went wrong with the mechanism because it's torn up, and only the hour hand remains. But the body of the clock is solid and I figure a quick call to Vitra and I've got me another clock for my collection. Lord know's its not a Turbine or a Spindle... but I'm counting my blessings none-the-less.
😀
Thrilled
While the Eye clock is not my favorite I'm still thrilled. I can only guess that it came from one of the architecture firms in the building (there are 4). I know Vitra can get me new hands, just not sure if the whole mechanism can be replaced. If not I'll just put the hands on and leave it on the wall. I've got at least one working clock in the room.
I can't believe someone...
I can't believe someone would throw something like that away! I don't like them much myself but I'd never buy something and then just chuck it, even if it was damaged and I'd had a refund, charity shop? fix it yourself and take it home? a needy relative? ebay?
Lord no
The box weighed a ton. My guess is that they tried to fix it up, broke the mechanism, and figured it was a lost cause. I know one of the interns on one of the firms -I'm going to try to get some info next time I see him. I'm sure it was written off as a 'business expense'

I would say you lucked out on that one.
I just can not believe that any one would be so stupid as to toss a clock out like that cause it takes so little to fix it and repair it.
I think you get the award for the deal of the month and you are off to a great start for 2008.
