Couple more
Here are a couple more images of modular group from past auctions. They were available with tables like I said, and you could even get them with drawers too.

pegboard your eye is ...
pegboard your eye is somewhat correct, my sofa is soft but not doughy , I did use a 150 solid foam
the most expensive and softest of the foams available most foams are 85/90 and are on most standard commercial pieces of furniture,
I used this cause it was in my home office and not much use,
One thing i have noticed and my Business Partner Scott says , is cause they have original horse hair straps that do not conform right away so when you sit and get up it still has the butt crease,
I at first did not like this and then Scott said that is the reason, of course the Girard Quatrfoil fabric is not that heavy woven that the original fabric had on it, but the sofa is really cool the sofa i own was made Aug 8, 1958. I do like the sharp crisp look of the sofa also.

Just received the sofa...
Just received the sofa today. Couldn't be happier with it. The upholstery weave(accents of black and green) really breaks up the eye making it a much less obtrusive piece. The foam composing the back is a bit tough but by no means hard. Really impressive piece of history I feel I've brought into the house for the runts to gaze upon.

Lunchbox
love the sofa, the three is just like the ones in collage as well as the two seat,
I like your fabric, mine was in the blue variation and was shot, and the foam was hard and crumbly
I love the modular group that Nelson designed I can honestly say there are not very many still floating around, they seem to be getting rarer and rarer.
on a side note the City of Tulsa moved to a new building and auctioned off all their old furniture
They had 100s of steel case sofas 3 and 4 seaters that looked like Florance knoll and they had hundreds of the back credenzas.
It is amazing how much they look like the knoll pieces. They went for a fair price and no give away deals for 50 bucks. Steel case made a great business of coping the great knoll designs. They must have been in every office in America, (not the executive suites)

LRF...
So you replaced the foam comprising the back I take it? Looks to have come out very well for you. Can I ask what material you actually used and where you purchased it from? My sofa is sittable for now. But I'm thinking the foam is on its last leg and I'll definitely want to redo it if ever I decide to reupholster.

I have one of the Steelcase...
I have one of the Steelcase Knoll copy sofas with the tufting. While I would love a Knoll, I do love my sofa. I got it free from a government building and reupholstered it.

I've been scrounging around...
I've been scrounging around for an old Steelcase sofa for a while now. Built like tanks and VERY good looking. Plus, the price is nice. But I did really well on this Nelson sofa. $500 plus $350 shipping through Plycon. Pretty jazzed about that find.

Lunchbox you did get a ...
Lunchbox you did get a good deal for the three seater .
I paid 800.00 and bought it locally,
We used a heavy foam almost like memory foam that you see on beds on the back side, I can get you the exact name if you want it, It really makes the difference to use the best foam cause it will last forever, and you really want the sharp edges as that does give the sofa a cool look.

Yes, LRF...
I would appreciate that very much. Do you by chance know what foam Modernica uses with their Nelson daybeds? I have one and it's held up like a champ over the years.

I had originally shied away from the armless sofas
(when I was looking for a sofa for my living room), but seeing all of the above pieces makes me wonder if the one I bought was the best choice! Contrary to my opinions,I can be swayed by beautiful pieces like those above.
Any of them would be wonderful to own.

Barry
i think your place would look good with a steel case/knoll sofa nicely tufted in your favorite fabric, Since you have a guy in your hometown that does good work that would be the perfect sofa for your house.
If you want a three seater I have a friend that bought 5 from the city that need to be recovered and if i was in need of a cool sofa i would have bought one.
