i was intrigued enough with the mention of le corbusier's statement of "l'avion accuse" [in a reference from a previous thread] that i did a bit of snooping around the web for more.
my somewhat limited search took me among other sites to the link below, which is essentially an excerpt from a relatively new book by alain de botton titled, "the architecture of happiness."
i pass this along with a view toward providing additional interesting reading to those inclined toward an analysis of archectural philosophy and a critique of its subcultures.
also, perhaps some here will have additional insights or engaging feedback on the matter of the modernist mindset [if it can be legitimatly considered an homogenous position], since so many of us would describe ourselves to some extent as adherents [or even zealots] for the grand cause.
i'd enjoy whatever informed feedback you may have on the topic, albeit broad.
regards.

my personal recommendations...
my personal recommendations would be to read the books published by taschen
On Marcel Breuer ,Mies Van Der Rohe,Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier ,
I found all 4 of these books to be a great read , perfect size , and lots of great information in to the Architect and designer.
I love these books they can be bought on Amazon starting at 6 bucks each. Other books they have that i bought that are great are books on Eero Saarine ,Case Study Homes, Louis I Kahan, Pierre Koenig Richard Neutra, Alva Aalto and Charles and Ray Eames.
I love how these books flow in to the periods that these designers lived and designed,
