His son now manufactures some of the furniture, the square coffee table he makes looks better designed than the one FH makes.

Really suprised to learn over a few days that a lot of the steel is sprung, the leather is hand-stitched (thanks Barry) etc etc. Very curious to know why such a handcrafted approach is taken, either PK and/or his wife insist(ed) on it or FH do it to maintain the perception of the range being as high end as possible.

...."One of my friends told me about the difference between northern and southern European approaches to furniture - so to speak. If an Italian architect sees a chair he will sit down and watch women. If a Danish architect sees a chair he will turn it upside down to see how it looks underneath. The ladies will have to wait their turn to be scrutinized."

From the book "Poul Kjærholm" by Poul Erik Tøjner, Louisisana Museum of Modern Art, in the series Danish Designers.

A telling quote
A telling quote from his son might explain the methodical hand-craft: PK "had learned that if the detail was not in order, the rest didn't matter"

.
I'm not sure if detail is dependant upon handwork. Give me router-cut dovetails over second rate hand-cut ones any day!
Its a grey area between what constitutes hand made or machine made now, especially since cnc.
