Months back I started a thread about the possibility of designing and manufacturing modern mobile homes .... or even rennovating existing ones to have a modern aesthetic. While I agree with the consensus that it probably wouldn't be overly successful, I was/am just curious about the possibilities.
The other day I was driving to my almost completed new home and drove by a manufactured housing lot that is nearby ... they have always just sold your typical ugly single and double wides. But this time I noticed that they had a modern mobile home out front. A first, I think. I have not until this point seen anything like it.
What do you think? May not be the Farnsworth house, but in terms of mobile homes it's definitely a HUGE step int eh right direction. I firmly believe that good design should be available to everyone. This is interesting (to me, at least).
See what you think...

I don't really know, but everything else there (you can see it on the site) is your typical ugly mobile homes .... with the exception of a few nicer traditional models.... But nothing there is of this caliber. And they have a three bedroom version of this as well..

I went by today. 120K for the model home and an additional 30K for the detached studio. The main home is 2 bed one bath. The master closet is huge and is the place that the washer/dryer lives (I love this). The studio boasts a bathroom and rooftop deck and comes with the deck that connects to the home!! The price includes a free land location service, hookup to water and electricity and pier and beam foundation. Slab foundation is extra.
All in all I am very impressed. I would have chosen a few different materials. Maybe the windows would be slightly different. All in all it felt pretty solid and a good value. The home is actually manufactured and designed by Clayton employee architects. Honestly, I thought it would have been by a third party.
They claim the home is just as good as stick built and has 2x6 construction rather than 2x4. It also comes solar panel and water collection ready. You can buy the panels directly from them as well. They have an additional larger detached studio as an option as well, as well a few different floor plans / options.
They ran something about this on Apartment Therapy, last Spring-
