May I suggest...
Knud Holscher's d-line.
As many scandinavian architects/designers Knud Holscher, or should I write professor Knud holscher knows how to cross the borders between the different disciplines.
Most hardware is designed by designers and the inevitable result seems to be a product, whereas Knud Holscher understands that it is not a product, it is a part of the architecture and should be treated as such.

Hi James
...and probably more available on the north American market than d-line.
It looks very good, in fact, it hardly hides it's original inspiration. My only (two) problems are the typical north american round knobs (do people always have such a ferm grip and at least one hand free) and the other are the oh! so visible screws on the plate...God (beauty, for atheïsts like myself) is in the details...but yes, I could live with it.
Yet another non-believer who loves good hardware...
I'm more of an earth based spiritualist myself, tree is great rock is good...that sort of thing...
I have a lot of doors in my abode, and byin good hardware can destroy a budget. So I went industrial, stainless and cost effective. I put the same hardware (including hinges) on all my doors interior or exterior and they've held up really well. I used some of the perfect orb knobs (the ones shown are flattened, but mine are completely spherical, which I think give a better grip)and some lever sets depending on the location. Deadbolts for entryways instead of keyed knobs. I got a Blomus SS house number from my sib for xmas that works well with the hardware and I've picked out a sleek new doorbell that is also ontrack, its a simple circular design with a lighted white silicone button. If I could ever flippin' figure out how to post photos reliably I'm add them
