I have a dining set that consists of six ash Herman Miller DCMs and a simple blonde dining table from IKEA (reminiscent of your typical school library table). In the new house I am building the set will live within the open kitchen.

I really want walnut cabinets. Will this look odd in your opinion? I was originally going to do white cabinets, but I saw the walnut samples and I love it. I think it will bring a nice touch to a house that is otherwise devoid of wood (save for my furniture). The rest is white sheet rock, glass, and concrete.

If I decide it's going to look weird or unplanned I will probably need to rethink the dining set. I would hate to make semi-permanent decisions on the construction of the house due to something as interchangeable as furniture. Although I spent a lot of time/energy deciding/finding the perfect set of dining chairs.

Anyone have any images showing a mix like this that I could see?

With all the white walls I will have I just don't think blonde wood would contrast enough .... and it might also be overkill. I have the blonde dining table, dining chairs, and I have a Nelson bench and a Kofod chair with a birch back....

Unrelated
I'm fine with mixing woods as long as they are not immediately adjoining (and I mean immediately). Probably the thing I would find most disconcerting is the pine table with the ash chairs, but thats a problem easily solved with a new table, or some stain. Since the walnut cabinets will be on the walls, and the chairs will be on the floors, and the contrast will be significant, I don't see any reason why you should avoid mixing.

FYI the table is not pine....
FYI the table is not pine. It's an older table from IKEA that they don't sell any longer..... Don't know the wood, but it doesn't have those knots ...
