This table is made of one piece of wood, almost six feet long, with a thickness of two inches; the four legs are made of thick wide bands of stainless steel that bracket the slab of wood. I would like to know if anyone recognizes the designer or source.

We have one of those.
But I don't have a designer attribution. I know it's Danish, it has the Danish control label. It's incredibly well made of solid wood not veneer. Very nice piece.

Thanks!
You have been very helpful! I don't know where you got the picture that shows a similar one, or what "control label" means exactly, but I have finally found out something about the coffee table that I have loved and used for twenty or so years! My grandkids dance on it! It is so sturdy.
I wonder if it may have been designed by Poul Cadovius.

The designer is Jørgen Høj
and yes, it is Danish.
Very nice piece, congrats!

why let your grandchildren...
why let your grandchildren dance on a table you love/have loved for twenty years. A table that obviously has some pedigree.. Gives me shivers..

I say let your grandchildren...
I say let your grandchildren dance on it all they want. What's more important in the long run; Happy children or a slab of wood on pretty metal legs?

Thanks for the attribution. The one you link to looks like rosewood. The one I have is teak. Gayle's dancefloor looks like teak as well.

I always loved the simplicity of this design.
And relative to other woods, solid teak can take a beating so if it's a children's dancefloor, no problem!

Certainly...
The integrity of the wood may not be an issue... I might be more concerned about the stability of the table as whole. But, it does look to be pretty sturdy in construction.
