Hello,
I have a (esthetic-moral) dilemma. I'm thinking of making some pieces of furniture. Thusfar we realised a table, square almost box-like, in oak. But as I'm broadening my skills I feel attracted to the techniques and materials used in mcm, in specific scandinavian furniture.
The execution, the use of solid wood on edges/legs/handles, the fine proportions. These are things that appeal to me when collecting furniture, but now I'm searching how I can implement these in modern, contemporary furniture and not just make 'retro' furniture.
Are there people here with the same idea or approach to furniture-making or can give me some advice?
Do you know designers who use old craft techniques/ old school skills? Post some pics/links if you can.
Thanks!
.
It is a tricky problem, a lot of the stuff we all know is actually very conservative in some ways, I wish the training they had recieved was more common now.
It is really hard to find matching solid for veneered board in my experience though, just something to keep in mind.
The way this guy works might help you.
