Nice work defeliciantonio
(And the LTR isn't bad either!)
Seriously, the table looks much better with the smaller diagonal rod. Is it possible that the top is a bit large? Or is that just the lack of beveled edge that is making it seem that way?
I missed out on so much since Ive been away.
The lack of chamfer is throwi...
The lack of chamfer is throwing off the balance most likely appears larger. The base also wasnt screwed on so it might not have lined up perfectly when top was sitting there
BTW eameshead. Your house in its setting and furnishings is amazing.
It still would be crazy expensive to make a DIY eames lounge. All the metal parts would still have to be sourced used or new. I love building things with bent lamination but the supplies aren't cheap. $30-40 per sheet of bending ply and it is used quick as you need a few layers as you don't want less than 5-6 glue lines. So at least 3 layers of the ply plus the layer of veneer per side. Plus the glue, I like unibond 800, 2 part is 60$ after shipping since its a chemical. And after all the bending jigs wheater they are pink foam or plywood would get very expensive. It wouldnt be worth it unless a small batch was made.
difeliciantonio, nice little
project. Maybe you could save the cost of the special bevel bit by making your bevels on the table saw, and following the corners on the stationary disc sander with its table set to the same angle (after making the radius as before) ? With this small top you shouldn't have much trouble, and you'll actually get a better surface than with the router -- no grain tear-out on the corners.
Thanks for starting a great thread !
(Ignore snarky posters -- they go with the territory. It's just too easy to let those bottled-up emotions out when you're not face-to-face or voicing, I think. I've done it myself . . .)
@SDRI did think of that...
@SDR
I did think of that method yesterday. I do agree that for a top this small it would be easy. But I bought the bit more for the thought of making the ellipcal table top since its on the larger side.
I have measured the bevel from a photo at 5-6 degrees on the ltr and ellipcal table. Can anyone confirm on a real item?
defeliciantonio
6 degrees? I am not a craftsman enough to be a reliable witness on that one. And as Tex will tell you , I know nothing about manufacturing.
Thanks for the kind words too. I appreciate it very much.
You would have to be nuts to try a 671 lounger. Lunchbox is not the only one having a hard time believing that you actually considered it!
