I have one of these, so I should know better. But I want a second opinion. Is it real? I need to know before I drive!

Thanks

"Chair is adjustable and reclines"
did Herman Miller ever offer this feature?

No, but I wonder if that is just talking about the fact that it is leaned back and it swivels.
Unsure. Wish there were better photos.

for future reference, the easiest way to tell is to look for visible bolts under the armrests. You can see them in the Craigslist photo linked above. The real thing does not have visible bolts.

Both are fake
Whitespike - I almost made the same mistake on a Craigslist posting - I stared at it for 20 minutes with a copy of Eames design in my lap...everything looked good...except the square ends of the base tines - a much subtler giveaway than the bolts.
Nate - the proportion between the backrest and headrest is unequal on yours - common 'alteration' of the original design.
I've seen every type of malarkey put forth when people sell these things. Herman Miller never offered a tilt version, or one with an adjustable headrest, or one with wheels.
Just about the only major variants I know of are that very early advertisements list the 671 (ottoman) with a swivel base. I've never seen a true HM one with this feature - but the ads list it.
My fave line of bull was a guy on eBay who insisted that the Eames worked with Plycraft in developing one of the Plycraft versions. He set forth the unlikely story that the Eames had a change of heart after the HM version came out, and wanted to offer the chair at a cheaper price. He insisted that he had paperwork - but wouldnt show it to me because I clearly wasnt a serious bidder.

I'm
not entirely sure 'fake' is the right word?..
Ok, they are clear copies/ inspired by/ in the manner of- but they were never intended to deceive when new.
(only in the hands of the unscrupulous today)

Kidding?
Are you kidding? Paul Goldman (founder/owner Plycraft) stole, copied, and lied his way through numerous designs. More notable than the Eames copies is the story of his theft of Cherner's chair design and the subsequent lawsuit. In reference to the Eames, even Goldman's granddaughter listed his collaboration with the Eames (tho she wasn't sure if it was Charles, or his brother Ray) on his obituary.
