these are at a local thrift store. 2 of em. I know I have seen that sunken/folded seat somewhere. Dare I say Milo B? They have a tremendously unfortunate re-upholstery, but otherwise seem in pretty decent shape.
EDIT - Italian meebee?

Not sure
But I am always completely repulsed by any kind of altered Mid Century furniture. Unless it is an ultra rare item that MAY have the original upholstery underneath, I always pass. But these look very similar to Milo Baughman style chairs. But I'm not seeing any that are an exact match so far.

well
I am thinking I should, but I have so many bleedin' projects. They should be an easy reupholstery job, yes? I think with a nice electric blue they would be lovely.

Good Decision.
+1 for electric blue or something in the neighbourhood of gold.

another question
they are button tufted. Should I replicate that detail? At first i was thinking no (was unsure if it was an original detail), but I am rather leaning towards yes now...
input welcome

Is there any chance
The original upholstery is underneath?

I think
they would seem too plain without buttons. I would assume who ever choose that fabric wouldn't have gone out of their way to add button tufting.

just checked.
nope. Just foam...
I think I will take this to someone who has made cushion slip covers for me previously. Afterall, these are basically just BIG slip covers, the do the buttons myself.
Now to look for fabric, one of my favorite activities.
SOMEONE on another thread mentioned a really good fabric source???? Modern fabrics or somesuch?

Modern-Fabrics.com
Love them! I've bought from them and their service is great.
I wonder if those chairs are a little overstuffed? Are there any originals online? So many upholsters go overboard on the padding when redoing furniture.
I vote for buttons. They might need to go on before the back is on, though. Were you just thinking you'd get the chairs redone and then decide whether to tuft? You have to tie the button cords to something in the back. Usually they're tied to webbing, or to the frame, or something. Then the back panel is put on. Your upholster will probably let you stop by to decide on buttons when he or she gets to that step if you ask. Maybe. Or maybe just email pics (which is what I've done).

yup
I was just there. Nice site good prices.
I am 99% sure it is the original stuffing. I pulled off some of the upholstery and you can tell the stuffing has been there since manufacture.
I found a couple of examples of this chair online. The best (with the best pics) is on 1st dibs..I'll include a link. It looks pretty puffy as well
It is possible that this is the original upholstery. It's pretty tired and pretty aweful. So I have no reservations about showing it the door

upholstery
a followup
I think I am going to go for more subdued upholstery.
Opinion: In GENERAL would you grey/black or white/off white?
My thinking
1. there are 2 of them. If they were too eccentric they would dominate a room. 2. They are already so darn interesting I think I should play DOWN the material to emphasize the form of the chair.
I am sorta leaning towards a worked off white wool blend.
