I was doing some research for a feature story on the space-age and to my shock, discovered that the original lava lamp was designed in England by a guy called Edward Craven-Walker, in 1963! And you know what, they are still being produced by the same company - Mathmos. I used to hate lava lamps (always through they were too corny) but after checking out these on the Mathmos website, I think they are kind of cool.
What do my fellow addicts think?

Thank you Robin!
Sorry Stephen, I did not see anything that would change my opinion from 1963...certainly not the Ross Lovegrove one. I think he missed the point, which is that the slow moving liquid bubbles are the core feature of the product. The envelop should support this little show, not distract. A clean geometrical shape would compete less with what is happening inside the bottle. Not lit, it would be boring enough to motivate people to turn it on. But...there are some interesting glowing objects in the "Mobiles" section.
