Yeah thats a better idea thanks, I'm not optimistic about finding some stone though after looking at prices.
I'll use my folks machines to polish them, if I look incompetent for long enough Dad will just do it for me, maybe.
I've polished aluminium before but its not a fun job.
Bored! Its not too bad doing it by hand, thought I'd do the coffee machine too but ran out of wet + dry, started at 240 and went to 400, might try going up to 600 but beyond that it's more effort than its worth. Something to do through the week, think I will go get the rest of the bases, have convinced a friend he should have one for his new house.
Slab Coffee Table
Just built this table for an anniversary gift for my wife. Time to sand and start getting some finish on it by Wednesday. I wanted it to look like the slab was just folded over at the top/leg joint. This is made from one of the Black Walnut slabs that were in an old chicken coop that used to be at the back of our yard when we first bought our house! The "faux" dovetails are simply a 45 degree tapered dado. If anyone is interested I'll post a pic of the jig I came up with for it doing that.

Destroyed..
Had a (very) annoying accident earlier today. Whilst moving a matress I stupidly forgot to take some art off the stair wall - managed to knock an expensive print off the wall, smashed the frame, smashed glass, and sadly destroyed my Artimide umbrella rack at the bottom of the stairs. The only good thing was the glass hasn't damaged the print touch wood.
Last thing I did...
Entered a contest to win a gift certificate at a local design store. You can give me a chance by voting for my photo! 🙂 It's good karma.

The jig
Here's the jig from the bottom view and in the clamped working position. Nothing fancy just a nailed together jig I made after work one day. The maple wedges were cut on a bandsaw and then belt sanded to fit, scribed and trimmed. I'm not going to key the split for a couple of reasons. The first is I'm thinking less is more here and the key may just make it too busy and once it's done there's no turning back. The second is the glue joint is so strong that the leg is extremely solid and stable so I'm going for it as is. I've put one coat of sanding sealer on it and will finish it in a satin poly.

Spalted End Tables
I built two end tables out of a spalted maple slab I purchased. The hair pin legs were also fabricated by myself.
On a side note, I also built a wheelchair from scratch from cast aluminum for my Bachelor Industrial Design thesis. It can be view here:
