Cool coffee table. What kind of base is that at the bottom? -LL

Base of the coffee Table
Thanks for the compliment!
The base of the coffee table is all fiber re-enforced concrete - the two semi circle side pieces at the bottom are also made of concrete and connect to the main base via 5 stainless steel rods that pierce it.

Finished today!
Here is a Credenza I built to match in part our Florence Knoll Credenza. It holds all the nasty electronics and keeps them out of sight.
Some features:
a. Custom Chrome frame.
b. Veneer
c. Floating leg on the left of the piece holding the glass shelf below made of two slices of wood with chrome in between.
d. 5 feet in length, 18 inches deep.
e. The White door is actual canvas to allow radio transmission signals through to the electronics and a recent art piece was thrown onto the front of it as the handle. albeit, a big handle but very cool.
f. Screw feet to allow adjustment.
g. That's a brand new 1970's Philips Record Player too!
I will post 5 images.

don't have a before photo
but this was circa 1930s, I'm guessing, with horrendously filthy striped fabric, covering very cool (and rotted) brown leather.
would have been great to bring it back to the original, but I went with the cheapest fabric I could find, while still trying to have a bit of style: an ikea pillow case, and some cheap black fabric.
purists amongst you may want to avert your eyes.

Partly repurposed
The frame on it was repurposed in a round about sort of a way.
I obtained several pieces from old desk and essentially cut the chrome, grinded it down where needed twisted it etc. The original top was 6 ft by 30 inches. It is now 5 foot by 18 inches.
There are no steel chromed bars that are original size - all were cut & bent.
Some of the wood was purchased and created to blend with the rest of the item.
If I showed you a photo of the original desk, you would hard pressed to see any resemblance at all.
The part that holds the cabinet (with the white canvas) would be assumed to be the spot where the drawers used to be, but in fact what is now the front where the cabinet door is, was actually the side of the desk.
I wish I had taken a pic of the desk beforehand, but it was scrap at a shop that I purchased for $27.

The new baby:
A coffee table. It will sit in front of a white leather Barcelona two-seater (!), on a black-ground Mexican rug, in a narrow living room. I wanted to provide the most leg- and foot-room possible, so I gave it a single leg on the seating side . . .

Very cool and beautiful work. What type of wood did you use?

Thanks, Woody.
It's maple, finished with two coats of "Breakthrough" clear acrylic, followed by a topcoat of Varathane spray poly.

Nice Table SDR!
Tom, all...
Nice Table SDR!
Tom, all my furniture is in production, I build them myself. Those pictures are from the Interior Design Show in Toronto in January where those pieces were first revealed.
Thanks none the less.

Okay, SDR.
Quite the formal excersise. Congrats. I'm curious, though, do you mind?
Joinery and fasteners. Care to elaborate?
I notice the contrasting bungs. I assume they cover screws. Are they the only ones?
The finish. You object to the yellowing effect of oil-based products?
That glass must have set you back.
Oh, yeah. Is that a DUMPSTER???
Thanks for sharing. I admire your experience and thoughtful, willing nature.
