Very cool, SDR
What kinds of wood and other materials did you use?

Nice indeed!
I'm also curious about the materials you used.
Are the semi-transparent white parts sliding?

Thanks. The
shelves are Goncalo Alves -- chosen for color, to match some other work (in a different material) that I had done previously in the same room. I wanted a contrast for the posts, so they are Poplar -- selected for color: the wood sometimes has an olive-green cast. The sliding panels are an inexpensive hollow-cell plastic.
I waxed the shelves, after planing and lightly sanding them. The posts have some spray lacquer. The piece is bolted together, with 1/4" threaded rod passing through slots sawed half-way through the posts from the rear. The mounting system is three 3" eyebolts screwed into wall studs, with the shelves lying flat upon them and pinned through them with flat-head screws to the underside of the shelves.
The client, a friend, paints in his living room and wanted a place to put supplies, like the jars of pigment visible in one of the photos.

I had this piece published in Corning's New Glass Review this year. A tough one to be selected for, been trying for an embarasing number of years.

Congratulations, glassartist!
That's a cool piece. I had kind of a gut reaction to it.
How'd you do the speckles? I have done a little bit of glass bead-making and all I can think of is touching a thread of darker glass to the white glass but that can't be it.

Thanks Spanky
Directly after the last gather of glass is gotten from the furnace, I apply these steel shavings. If i waited till the piece cooled to a normal blowing temperature or less the glass would be to cold and the metal shavings would not stick.

Nice !
It strikes me as a unique object in the universe, never again to be encountered by the viewer. Copies, or a series, would be impossible to contemplate . . .

I take that assessment as a compliment SDR. It fits well into some notions I have as to it's (perhaps) meaning.

very cool
glassartist-I second what SDR said... and I like the way the glass works with the wood "frame" too. (I think you should change your name to "artist")

Quite well done, glassartist!
I'm just a stoner piano player. I know no other outlet. Oh how I wish that I could create objects in any media. But I do play well, they say (or think).
And that's it. Oh my.
Aunt Mark.

Finally made
a dining table ! This one will reside at the local café. It's a gate-leg drop leaf table, made of bamboo flooring and maple, 36 x 99 inch top.
