These two were waiting for me when I got back from an extended work trip overseas. Nice way to relax with a drink in the lounge after a 30 hour flight. 😉
The shell I got for the lady as a sewing chair, and in the interim have a second gen eiffel base until I find a correct 70's rocker base for it. I was going to do repro, but I feel if I find a "meh" 70s rocker , this would be a more authentic fix. I hate changes bases to begin with any any of the shells, but beggers cant be choosers.
for all the woodworkers out there . . .
. . . an antique workbench (~100yrs old) picked up this weekend from a retiring cabinetmaker.
I am assuming it is made by C Christiansen of Chicago, as it is almost identical to their workbenches I've seen online, except the vise collars do not have the embossed name on them (plus I live in Chicago). Vise screws are made of wood (maple I believe, along with the bench top), and are in excellent working order.
I plan on removing the paint where applied, and returning the bench to its original exposed wood finish, while minimizing any alteration to the wood surface itself. Hopefully the paint is somewhat recent and there is still a nice wood patina underneath.

I got very lucky in finding it, as I had only been looking for one for 4 days. The original plan was to put it in the basement and continue its life as a working table for my mid century furniture projects. However, depending on how it cleans up, I am now considering moving it up a floor to a perfect spot along a kitchen wall.
I've been to a few woodworking websites to learn more about this bench, and if I did the latter, might receive some scorn from longtime woodworkers who have been waiting years for one of these to pop up at an affordable price.
Either way, it will be appreciated in my household.
I also found some nice old magazine ads for this bench online. Even the stacked dowel connection for the tail vise can be seen through the paint coats.
Bragging in the right spot
I just picked up this Baumritter chair in near perfect condition for.....twenty dollars. Swoon! I bought it at an estate sale and had two people stop me on the way out and offer to buy it. It is in need of cushions, if anyone has a source for vintage cushions I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer to buy cushions of the period or new cushions with period fabric.
