More housewares from thrift stores today after work: A "Jax" bookend/doorstop for $6, Nissen Denmark concave cutting board $2, Raymor orange ceramic piece (probably W. German) $3, and three small Japanese import items.

.
I thought those things went in the fireplace to keep the logs elevated?
Nice stuff, about to click the buy button here on another 1k worth of Lee Valley/Veritas. Maybe I should just blow it all on a wardrobe full of these instead?
Seriously, these and some other things, I will click buy tonight after stealing myself with a few glasses of $3.00 wine.

Heath, you ever check out the Lie-Nielsen Toolworks catalog? They have some nice planes, chisels, etc. Their only plane I have is the small scraper, which is essentially a copy of the very expensive and hard to find Stanley #212 scraper. I would love to have some of their block planes some day. The Japan Woodworker (in California) online catalog is also nice.

Yeah I had a look, the bronze body ones are so nice on the eye I almost couldn't care about using them but I tried a veritas years ago and it was fine, pretty good value for money, about 700 for those 3.
Now that I've got a soft floor and that cast iron is less brittle there'll be no broken planes anymore either, whats the difference between a scraper plane and just using card scrapers? Control? I'm a relative newbie to all this handwork.
Mmmm, maybe I do want one, ka ching!

Ya never know ...
where you're gonna find a sweet treat! Went to a rural estate/demolition sale hoping to get some baseboard and a newel post, which I did and while I was admiring the beautiful turn of the century cottage about to be no more I spied this sexy little tea cart in a heap of goodies that were en route to a donation centre. Gasp! Adoption was short and sweet. Damn, I love those farm folk!
So no indication of a designer, just Svendborg, Denmark and the H & M initials "mogen & hansen"??? Clues anyone. I am only just getting my teak feet wet and learning to appreciate what I grew up surrounded by, hated as a teenager and now learning to love.

a slow month
I just got two red Ron Arad, Bookworms for Kartell 8003 (new in box) and the Antonio Citterio with Oliver Low, OXO cart for Kartell 4485 (new in box).
I know the OXO cart is an anachronism, but it will go well with the Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, Algol television for Brionvega that I purchased a few months ago.

Wow--
gorgeous sideboard, woodywood!
Like the cart, Niceguy; but I've always had an intense hatred for those "bookworms", to be frank.

Heath, I agree that card scrapers are a lot more useful and practical for most applications. Probably the reason why the Stanley #212 scraper plane is so rare is that the demand for them was never very great, so few were made. They do provide a great deal of control for when it is needed though.

Bookworms
william-holden-caulfield,
Thanks for the positive comment on the OXO cart. This is the television (red unit) I intend to use on the cart in the guest room.
As for the Bookworms, the price was so low that I could not say no. I may use these in the kitchen for spices or cookbooks. If worst comes to worse I will give them as gifts to my friends. It was only $200.00 for the pair.

sideboard
woodywood,
While I have moved away from most wood products (I sold my Thos. Moser Boat Top table and replaced it with the Fontana Arte Tour table) I think your sideboard looks great and I appreciate the simple clean lines. Congratulations on your acquisition.

The dimensions are 42"l x 14"w x 19"h. I think the design is simple enough to fit in anywhere. I was thinking of putting in the bedroom, but space is limited. I have it in the living room now, and it looks just fine to me. 🙂
