I got inspired by all these...
I got inspired by all these finds in this thread and stopped in the nearest thrift store today. I quit going to it long ago because it was always crawling with dealers and I rarely, if ever, found anything.
But whatever. Hope springs eternal, right?
BINGO-WHAMMO!
Lane coffee table with Kagan-esque base. Yeah, it's not Danish and yeah, it's a little wobbly and kind of inherently flimsy the way they did the joints on the top framing, but what the heck! I'm just going to resell it anyway since I already have a coffee table that I love. Still, I'm chuffed to have beaten the rest of them for once. (Saw a dealer on my way out and he congratulated me. Heh.)
(This is not my photo. My table is still out in the car. Oh, and it cost $25.)
a call for help
just a note, I rather dislike all the threads saying "what is this!" Shouldn't we consolidate those? I am pretty much against thread creating unless (IMO) it's deserving of it's own durn thread!
anyway, shot in the dark, does this chair that I picked up today LOOK familiar??? Great lines, great structure (vintage strapping underneath) comfy as all get out, built like a tank but no labels anywhere. Steelcase?
PS, I get the knoll chairs back tomorrow will post a pic POST cleaning.
First off, let me say that...
First off, let me say that I'm a total book geek...so I apologize in advance if this in boring to any readers
Ended up in a thrift store today on the upper east side (someplace I rarely go). On the shelves was a nice collection of 1950-1960's art books. A lot of the usual MOMA suspects, which I passed on. But I did find @ 15 1960's catalogs from NY's Sidney Janis Gallery. Nice stuff, if you're into Modern Art .
Also picked up MOMA's "The Package" "What is Modern Sculpture" and "Modern Gardens and the Landscape" All three, lovely titles.
The real prize though.....a first edition of Nakashima's "The Soul of A Tree", signed by the man himself. Now I can finally say I have something from the hand of Nakashima in my home.
