Thanks Geo H.
I know a simple kettle from the 1940 is not as exciting as 2 beautiful esu's for only 80 bucks. Amazing!
And also not as nice as Gene his Gio Ponti teaset.... but I find Geo H. information about the appearance of my kettle in a 1940 movie: "I love you again" fantastic. I watched the movie online on youtube and yes, I saw a glimp in minute 38-39.....
Really appreciated Geo H.!

hahahah
it was deleted! I knew something was fishy... two ESU's for that cheap...even a family with no Knowledge would sell them for something more like 100 dollars a piece I would say. And places like Salvation army or Savers wouldn't even mark that at 80...those would sell for about 85 a piece in a thrift shop.
The best thing I have ever gotten on CL was my 670/671 but I could see how someone could mistaken that for a crappy old chair.
The ESU's just look too nice to toss out without question...
jdip......I found an Egg chai...
jdip......I found an Egg chair at a thrift shop in NYC for $5 not too long ago and have found countless other valuable items at thrift stores and yard sales over the years. Hunting is my passion (On my lunch break today, I went to a thrift store and got @ 25 Iittala Ultima Thule glasses, in various sizes, and a teak Nissen carving board all for $30). Two ESUs it is not, but, I for one. never doubted your story. I just want to hear more about it...these stories can be entertaining - Especially what people say and do during the transaction. I'm also curious where (what state/country/etc.) you live in. Not because I want to come poach on your turf, but because it adds another layer of interest to the story.
I would really like to hear m...
I would really like to hear more too. I never doubted your story and still don't, but I have to say it's rather cruel to post a pic of two incredible ESUs, tell us you found them on CL for $80, and then give us nothing else! Why not give us some context, some background?
One man's junk cliché
This is all OT in this thread I guess, but what is so unbelievable about someone giving away an ESU (or selling for $40)?
There is a tonne of stuff out there (not just modern furniture) that looks like junk (or at least nothing of value) to 99.9% of us. It just depends what collector markets you're into. The use-value of stuff on the collector market is almost always miniscule compared to the exchange-value.
Let's congratulate each other on neat finds rather than question the legitimacy of claims. It is rare that I find something even mediocre in my area so I enjoy living vicariously through others in more well-endowed locales 🙂

I bought 1 aluminum group chair for 5 euros on a flea market in France and he was not even in the morning!
I bought a pair of fiberglass eames chairs at my local pan shop for 30 euros a piece
A good friend of mine , got loads of charlotte Perriand stuff ( tables, lights...) in the trash in "Les arcs", france, where all the flat were furnished by her.
Amazing bargains are made every day , but you never know when it comes to you
today
while not quite a dramatic
a general fireproofing desk chair. Not a swivel/propeller, but a 4 legger w/ a rather stylish back piece - Needs arm pieces
2 un-marked swedish side chairs (beech)
1 "made in Sweden" Ledu fluorescent clamp on desk lamp - works
I'll get a pic up of the chairs...
Comparatively small victories, but victories nevertheless
