Re: Ox
It wasn't re-upholstered in a bad way - just done poorly the first time around. As always with Modernica, the quality is as dependable as the weather.
I would love to own a real Ox. Even in pictures I can see the quality is better. But in the meantime this one is the placeholder...or until the next best thing comes along. While it's not nearly as cushy as the Eames it IS nice to be able to flop into the chair without worrying.
My camera died suddenly last week so I'll need to wait to post pictures.

Re: Grand Prix
CAC - that's one of my other favorites! I have 2 3103 (Jacobsen's 'school' chair) in teak that look identical to your wood grain. I'd love to pair them off with 2 Grand Prix for the kitchen table.

Agreed
The vintage Jacobsen chairs had some gorgeous veneers.

add to the haul
6 4/40 stacking chairs (David Rowland). Early 70's, molded plywood.
1 Norman Bel Geddes child's school desk
Still musing on that South African dining table. If I get a storage unit, durn it, I'm buying it!

Jacobsens
Lucifer - link below is your chance! And I'm not sure I was really aware that the 'school' version was a full sized chair - I really like them.

Rideout kettle 1936 from Wagner, Ohio
A great example of streamlining: The industrial designers of the '30s took the idea of streamlining and applied it to everyday things, even things that weren't supposed to move at all! Cosmetic changes of familiar objects stimulated consumer desire and people ended up buying things, even in the depths of the Great Depression.
She smelled really awful as a old lady (estate sale smell). I am still cleaning it but isn't she lovely!

Just bought a massive Knoll Oval marble table
Paid 200 euros for the table (it came with 3 no-name office chairs)

Kettle Kongratulations, Andrea1!
Good find! Ours ($3.00, thrift shoppe) has long been a kitchen trophy. You can catch a glimpse of another one on Myrna Loy's range, in the1940 film "I Love You Again."
