Demp 945 / about the desk
Hello
all the infos I gathered about this piece are in the dedicated thread I opened (follow the link).
As for being a piece designed for kids, I have no solid info (a period ad would be one). But I missed the desk 6 times before I could really get my hand on it and each time the sellers told me it was used by kids. Which makes sense, as its tiny proportions wouldn't allow to store a lot of adult stuff).
Also, Tibergaard designed other desks with 2 drawer units - including a larger version of this very one. Hence a lot more storage space.
Also, I recently found an other info. I was wondering about the design date, as the rounded shelf on the right is a kind of feature that was fashionable in the end forties, but I stumbled on a irish site that date it from 1962.
I should ask him if the date is stamped on the desk, which would be a suprise. Every piece I tried to track down is simply marked : "Made in Denmark. Design: Tibergaard" on several spots behind the desk.
Where are you located?
Cheers

score!
four Børge Mogensen J39 chairs for 10 bucks each! I have to redo the seats but I have been wanting to practice with the bigger diameter cord so that's cool.
I have a soft spot for these. This was the first piece of Danish MCM furniture that I ever bought--got one from Roxy Antik in Copenhagen in 1998 when we lived over there. I just liked it. I still have that one.
The Next To Last Thing I Acquried
I just moved to a bigger apartment in NYC and there's a dedicated dining space/eat in kitchen. I immediately knew I wanted a vintage table and chairs, had a fairly limited budget, and was well aware of how over inflated the price of EVERYTHING worth having is in NYC. That being said, I was nearly bowled over when I came across this set. I don't know why someone didn't snatch it up, as the price was well below similar, even less complete sets I've run across. Luckily they didn't and now it's mine.
It's a Sculptra Dining Set from Broyhill's Premier line (of which Brasilla was the same line, but far more popular) series. It's a table with the 3 original leaves and 6 dining chairs- 4 regular and 2 arm chairs. The set is in very good vintage condition physically, but I suspect it's had a once over with some sort of "restore-in-a-can" product. Regardless, I love it because it's the exact thing I was looking for, and the scale is perfect for my apartment.
I consider it a "find" not only because I L.O.V.E it, but because I found a similar set (8 chairs, 2 leaves) listed by a dealer in San Francisco that was asking $3,600- I didn't pay anywhere near even a QUARTER of that for my set!
As a bonus, and much to my surprise, beneath two layers of hideous seat re-upholster jobs (one fabric more so than the next- see below), the original fabric was there. It's in not great condition, but I may try to conserve it and use it as the lining for whatever fabric ultimately ends up on the outside.
Below is a link to a great site, Retro Renovation, that posted a catalog (my dining chair, first image) from the series that she got from the current owners of the Broyhill brand name. There was another site that I'd stumbled upon that had done a whole write up/history of the line and how it came to be, but I've not relocated it. There is also a scan of an original retail/wholesale price list floating about the interwebs, and the item numbers match those that are stenciled to the bottom of my table- which is fun.

Edited...
I had posted here that I just bought a Clairtone G2 stereo. I bought it sight unseen over the phone. I had posted here someone elses image of a G2 but my van just turned up with a Project G and not a G2.....unbelievable surprise. The one I got needs a little work but essentially looks just like the picture I am posting which has been taken from the Clairtone website.
