Yes, the hole is for filling...
Yes, the hole is for filling the mill. The silver band spins around to seal the hole. From what I can tell, this series did not use plugs. I've found a couple other examples of mills from this series, but this model hasn't been documented on either Perlson's blog or the Pepper mill wiki.
Speaking of Dansk . . .
Picked up this wenge ice bucket (#1603 from the Rare Woods series) last week for a very reasonable price on eBay (listing did not mention wenge). There are some split issues, including a sloppy lid glue job, but they appear to be repairable in a cleaner manner.
(edit note: sorry for sloppy iPhone photo. I'll post a better image from a real camera once I get it home and cleaned/oiled up.)
a chair and an odd tip
bought a matched pair of what I THINK are Thayer Coggin Club Chairs (still working on that). THey were FILTHY (still pretty filthy) and the wool blend fabric was very pilled. Used my electric razor on the beard setting and that seemed to do the trick. Inspiration!
throw it away?
* because I look better with a full beard?
* Because the chair has befouled it?
* Because I have befouled the chair?
* You don't like it's transformers style?
It worked like a charm. First chair now looks smashing
EDIT - Weird thing about these chairs, I bought them at the same store where I bought a matched pair of Knoll club chairs about a year ago. Hum.
