New Floor Lamp
I have seen Fabio Lenci's work only in photos, and I always loved the "Focus" floor lamp. I thought the revolving ball was a smart idea - and the light socket at the top reminded me of Frankenstein electrode. Moreover, it rotated as well which I thought was one up on the Flos Lamp we had. The base seemed more pleasing, too.
I simply liked it and have wanted one for a while.
When it arrived I was surprised by the weight of the base, and the rods are heavier steel than other floor lamps including flos.
I think of Saturn or Uranus when I look at the ball as the lines on the plastic clear cover throw off light differently to most.
aha!
that makes perfect sense!
I refinished the top and boy is it lovely. It is one big coffee table. Would make a decent sized bed, in fact
EDIT - have never been that much of a fan of vejle stole Mobelfabrik. It always seemed to clunky and/or rounded. Or both. I know Grete Jalk designed for them but I think they were a largely an inhouse design firm.
This table, though, is pretty nifty, and for what I paid I wasn't going to say now. I could sell the wood for more than I paid or it. Not that I am going to, mind you.
A round one to go with the square one.
I really like my square (model 4950) Nelson tray table, but I didn't know about the round one until the Herman Miller Select reissue with its busy new inlaid top was announced back in July. Started looking for a plain vintage example back then, but it took a while to find the right one:

Grabbed a grasshopper
The drafting table is fantastic, given its history. Grabbed this over the holidays: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25671211@N02/6635196997/
We *do* have Craigslist...
...in the UK. The London link is below, plus there are others for other cities. I'm not saying there will be loads of people out there unwittingly getting rid of MCM gold, but you may strike lucky.

Artek clothes tree 160
Designed by Anna-Maija Jaatinen in 1964.
Saw this in a secondhand shop two days ago, it instantly apealed to me, only, it had been painted over sloppy.
As I have enough projects as it is and couldn't think of any producer or designer who could've made it, I let it be.
Yesterday I was browsing the net, looking for information on a Tapiovaara design, got redirected to the Artek-site, and there it was. Seeing it in it's original splendour (clean laquered black, white or red) I got my coat and went for the shop, had a lot of luck - it was still there and grabbed it!
Gold Beach
I bought this massive painting at a local St. Vincent De Paul thrift store for $50. The color appealed to me immediately because normally a beach/ocean scene is full of blue and green but this one red. On the back it's titled "Gold Beach" and initially I thought it was just a symbolic title but as it turned out a friend told me that there's actually a place in Oregon called Gold Beach and it looks very much like the painting! It's from 1970 and quite large at 65" x 40".
