A nice find
I am honestly not a Broyhill fan, BUT...
When something is new and well made, you have to admire it.
We stumbled across this Broyhill Dresser, and the shocking thing is, it had been stored in an upstairs bedroom, unused for decades.
When the dust was cleared off, the shock of seeing every single square inch of this piece being perfect was a great moment. I have never seen an MCM piece of this size with no imperfections that hasn't been redone/refinished (Moderesia)
I checked further - sure enough bags had been placed in the draws when it had been used to keep it clean and free from damage.
We now have it in the bedroom and it is very much loved.
Here are some photos.
(edit by Maria- The below photos were taken at the estate we bought it at, as I would never have such a hideous chair or fan in my home which you can see in the mirror. We also scored 4 Gio Ponti Superleggera chairs and a table that matches them very well for $70 at this same estate.)
Gio Ponti
Here is a nice set of Gio Ponti Superleggera chairs we found at an estate sale. We love the tapering on the chairs and the solid yet thin lines.
The table is a mystery to us as it is well made, 3/4 inch glass and the rim matches precisely the curve of the chair backs - but we do not think it is Gio Ponti - however extremely nice and the black cross that holds the table legs together seems optimal because it is black along with the chair woven cane - so it sort of "disappears".
my latest purchase:
an early fifties edition of the D70, produced by Tecno/Milano, designed by Borsani. Bought from the original owners, including the original brochure.
The interior was almost untouched and was almost an international catalogue of what design you could buy in the fifties: swedish, danish, italian, dutch...
I never would have thought to own this model!
Alvar Aalto (early Artek production)
Breaking a little bit from tradition here and buying something which is not by Paul McCobb I picked up this very nice little Alvar Aalto table and a pair of stools at a flea market over the weekend.
Could hardly pass it up and besides if i didn't buy it the vendor was going to talk himself so far down in price he might have ended up paying me to take it away.
Some thrift store finds..
Picked up this Italian brass and rosewood bar set at the local thrift store for 6.99.
Also found this nicely made brass lamp at the same place, marked xc/cx nyc. Havent been able to find anything out about it - anyone heard the name before? Also wondering what type of shade I should put on it.
Happy hunting!
